Daniel Harrison - Carding Operator Modern Apprenticeship

Which employer did you do/are you doing an Apprenticeship with?

Johnstons of Elgin

What did you want to do when you were in Secondary School as a career?

I finished secondary education and initially decided to go to university. However, it wasn’t suitable for me so left to join the Armed Forces as a Mechanical Engineer and Fabricating Welder. After 6 years passed, I decided to come back to Moray in 2017 after seeing a Carding Operator job arise at Johnstons of Elgin.

Why did you decide to do an Apprenticeship?

After being in the Carding Operator role for a short period of time, the HR team reviewed my work and thought it would be beneficial for me to do a Modern Apprenticeship.

What did/do you enjoy most about your Apprenticeship?

The thing I enjoyed most was learning new things and expanding my knowledge about my role.

What advice would you give to anyone else considering an Apprenticeship?

If you get an opportunity to do an apprenticeship go for it because you have nothing to lose! Not only did I receive a qualification from being an apprentice, but I also received a promotion which I didn’t expect to happen. Everyone was very supportive in helping me achieve my apprenticeship and I received lots of one-to-one time with my supervisor going through everything in detail with me.
