Double the DYW in unique collaboration

DYW Moray and DYW North East combined forces in a nine-month Positive Futures project to give a focused boost to the DYW message.

Recruiting a communications lead, a project administrator and a Modern Apprentice, the small sub-team carefully planned where their efforts could have the greatest impact.

They decided on:

  1. a Positive Futures research study that asked regional employers and young people about perceived barriers to youth employment
  2. three separate social media campaigns – informed by the Positive Futures findings – promoting the Young Person’s Guarantee, Foundation Apprenticeships and mentoring, as well as targeted positive PR
  3. a legacy of resources – in the form of testimonials, videos and case studies – that can be used to inspire young people and employers to work together

With dozens of YPG sign-ups for both teams and great engagement for the social campaigns from employers and stakeholders, the project has also provided concrete results in how to plan campaigns and measure their success.

The Positive Futures project has also established a framework for effective future collaborations between DYW organisations.

Sarah Barnes, Programme Manager at DYW Moray, said: "Being able to view another DYW organisation ‘from the inside’, while at the same time getting a different view of your own, was an interesting and valuable experience."
