I have been a Domestic Assistant at NHS Grampian for 2 ½ years.
What attracted you to the industry you are in?
Early starts as I’m a morning person, great benefits package and the hours fit in with my other job.
Describe your day-to-day role.
Clean my ward/area including bathrooms and bedrooms.
What skills have you learned?
Patient interaction & a higher level of cleanliness.
Do you like living and working in Moray? Explain why/ why not.
I do like living in Moray as I’m happy with my job but I probably won’t live here forever.
What skills are the most important for you to do your job well?
Being patient, good time management, having compassion.
Was there anything about the job that surprised you?
It did surprise me the amount of work required for a domestic, there’s a lot more than you would imagine.
Is there anything unusual about your role?
Patients are more likely to tell us how they are feeling than the clinical staff, as they feel at ease it's less formal speaking to the domestics.
Do you get a lot of support from your company?
Supervisors are always on hand to help and answer any questions, very approachable.
What’s your favourite part of the job?
Seeing a happy patient getting ready to go home.
Did you always want to pursue a career in this industry?
It’s always been a job that I have been interested in, especially with the NHS Grampian as they have a good reputation.
What is your career goal?
Continue with the company, I would love to do a course to better myself.
How does it feel to be a KeyWorker on the frontline, supporting the Country’s fight against Covid-19?
Cleanliness is a massive part of fighting COVID, so it makes me feel proud that I’m doing my small part in this. The teamwork during these times makes me proud to be a keyworker.
