What type of Apprenticeship did you/are you doing? (Foundation, Modern or Graduate)
Apprenticeship Type: RAF Intermediate (equivalent to Modern in Scotland)
Subject: Aeronautical Engineering.
Which employer did you do/are you doing an Apprenticeship with?
Royal Air Force currently serving at RAF Lossiemouth.
What did you want to do when you were in Secondary School as a career?
During secondary school I knew that I wanted to be in the military, but I wasn’t sure on the exact job that I wanted to do or how to get there.
What subjects did you enjoy in Secondary School/College?
Maths, Chemistry and PE.
Why did you decide to do an Apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship was the best option for me because I could get paid a substantial wage whilst learning and earning qualifications. Doing my apprenticeship with the RAF means that I am guaranteed a job for at least 12 years, with the options to extend this time.
What did/do you enjoy most about your Apprenticeship?
An RAF Apprenticeship gives me the option to travel all over the world. During this year I will be going to Cyprus and Malaysia, whilst still learning and completing my apprenticeship and earning a good salary.
Were there any entry requirements for your Apprenticeship?
To do an apprenticeship in the RAF you have to meet certain joining criteria, for example: A fitness test. The educational requirements are Scottish National Grade 5 in Mathematics, English Language and a Science subject.
What advice would you give to anyone else considering an Apprenticeship?
The biggest piece of advice I would give is to research what Apprenticeships are out there, there are many apprenticeships available for a wide range of jobs.
