Describe your career pathway after leaving school.

I was part of the Career Ready programme in my fourth year at school and carried out my four week internship with Springfield Properties. I was then offered a full-time job following this. I have been at Springfield for seven years now. I started off as an Admin Assistant and have progressed to my current role as HR Administrator whilst studying part-time at college.

What school subjects would be helpful for your job role?

Administration, Business Management and English.

What is your favourite thing about the work that you do?

Every day is different, no two days are the same! I enjoy working with people and particularly enjoy being involved in the recruitment and interview process.

Why did you want to work in this industry?

I didn't know what I wanted to do when I left school. My internship provided me with valuable experience and from this, I decided I wanted to continue in the construction industry.

Did you ever want to pursue another career?

I didn't know what I wanted to do when I left school.

What does a typical day in your role involve?

No two days are the same and I am continuing to expand my knowledge and skills. I carry out a variety of work relating to our employees time at Springfield - from the beginning of their employment to the very end. This can include drafting job adverts, carrying out interviews, preparing offers and contracts, disciplinary process, and drafting resignation letters. I also assist with general admin tasks, and queries and help the rest of the HR team where I can.

What skills are required to do your job?

Good people skills, good communication skills, attention to detail/accuracy, and good listening skills.

What is your advice to young people who are considering working in this sector?

Take advantage of any opportunities presented to you, you never know where they will lead!
