Bell Group are looking to recruit Painting & Decorating Apprentices in various locations including Inverness and Aberdeen.
Employed as an Apprentice Painter & Decorator you will learn all aspects of the painting and decorating trade. The Modern Apprenticeship in Scotland accredited by the Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA) and Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) is a 4-year apprenticeship and will include regular attendance at our training facility in Airdrie over this 4-year period. This will require some travel by the successful candidate to Airdrie and overnight stays in nearby accommodation. The accommodation is of a high standard with safeguarding measures in place and is fully funded by the business. Breakfast and a choice of evening meal will be included alongside the accommodation. Approximate Training Centre attendance will be 12 weeks in your 1st & 2nd year (in 2-week blocks), then 6 weeks for the 3rd year of the apprenticeship. There may also be additional requirements to attend the centre over the course of the apprenticeship programme for preparation of the end Skills Test and preparation for competitions.
As part of your programme apprentices will be trained to carry out all tasks expected of a Painter &Decorator and included in the Modern Apprenticeship Framework, including: Working Safely, Developing & Maintaining Working Relationships, Safe use of Access Equipment, Carrying out Internal and External Painting, Interpreting Drawings, Job Specifications, Risk Assessments, and Method Statements, Preparing Surfaces for Painting & Decorating, Applying water and solvent borne paints to Timber, Metal, Cementitious surfaces, Understanding the Properties of Water and Solvent Borne Paints, Selection of Appropriate Colour Schemes, Foundation and Plain
Wallpaper hanging, Patterned Paperhanging, Ceiling Paperhanging, Basic and Broadwell Decorative Effects, HVLP & Airless Spraying.
• Demonstrate a keen interest in Painting and Decorating as a career
• Be willing to travel to complete the off-site training element of the apprenticeship
• Understand the requirement to work at height (Working at Height and H&S training provided)
• Be organised and able to meet deadlines
• Be a team player with a positive attitude and willingness to learn
• Be polite with good customer service skills
For candidates based in the Highlands and Lowlands a Driving Licence and access to a vehicle would be beneficial for travel to and from the Airdrie Training Centre due to the nature of public transport and remote geography, however, if this is not possible then alternative arrangements can be made.
