The Opportunity
Our Wind Turbine Technician Apprenticeship offers a starting salary of £16,912 and the chance to achieve a Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Engineering and a Level 3 Engineering Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship.
This 36-month programme combines practical experience with structured learning, giving you the foundation principles of engineering before moving into specialist wind turbine maintenance.
You’ll study full-time at the National College for Nuclear and Clean Energy for the first two years, then join EDF sites for hands-on experience. The programme starts on Tuesday 1st September 2026, and you’ll play a part in EDF’s mission to drive the transition towards An Electric Britain.
Your Work Location
You’ll be based at the National College for Nuclear and Clean Energy in Somerset for the first two years. You'll then be based at your EDF location for year 3 which will be Huntly, AB55 4DT.
Travel may be required, giving you exposure to different wind farm sites and engineering teams across the UK.
What You’ll Experience
- Learning the foundation principles of engineering
- Developing practical hand skills and technical knowledge
- Working on wind turbine maintenance and servicing
- Gaining experience at EDF wind farm service centres
- Support from experienced mentors and engineering teams

Who You Are
To be eligible for this EDF apprenticeship programme, you need to have a minimum of five GCSEs at Grade 4/C or above (including Maths and English) or equivalent.
You’ll bring a passion for renewable energy, the ability to work independently and in a team, and a commitment to balancing study and work. A full UK driving licence is required by the end of your apprenticeship.
The Assessment Centre will be delivered either virtually or in person. Further details, including the date, will be confirmed in due course.
