Qualified and enthusiastic assistant gardener sought at Mayen Estate
This role is a rare opportunity to be an assistant gardener at a mature, private 2-acre walled garden. We are looking for an experienced and passionate person who works well as part of a team.
We are seeking an Assistant Gardener to work as part of our small and enthusiastic team to continue to develop and maintain the estate’s stunning grounds and gardens.
The walled garden features glasshouses, a fruit cage, vegetable beds, cut flower beds, mature fruit trees, herbaceous border, rose garden, mature yew hedging, box hedges, water features, ornamental trees, shrubs and perennial flowers.
Duties include:
- Assisting with the upkeep of the walled garden and glasshouses. Sowing, weeding and planting as the seasons dictate.
- Growing of organic vegetables and cut flowers from seed to serve the needs of the house and holiday cottages
Desirable skills, experience and qualifications required:
- RHS Level 3 or above
- Permaculture Design Certificate or above
- Ability to plan sowing and planting
- Ability and willingness to support student gardeners on summer placements
- Chainsaw and other power machinery certificates
- Chemical and spraying certificates
- An attention to detail, good housekeeping and timekeeping.
- Maintenance of plant, equipment, and tools
A passion for biodiversity, team working and growing vegetables and flowers from seed is essential.
