Job Description

The Consultancy provides a wide variety of services to the Council. These include the design and maintenance of bridges and structures, roads design, flood risk management and work for other sections within the Council. In addition to this there are statutory duties to be carried out such as bridge and watercourse inspections.

The job involves providing technical expertise in delivering capital and revenue schemes for the Council. As well as this your ability to communicate well and your flexibility of approach will be important aspects in fulfilling the requirement of this post.

Requirements

  • Civil engineering related project design and preparation.
  • Inspection and assessment of structures (retaining walls).
  • Procurement, project and contract administration, site supervision, measurement and valuation.
  • Complying with policies, statutory procedures and dealing with land related issues. Personal Development

The Individual

  • An interest in a career in construction.
  • Higher Mathematics, English and Physics or demonstratable equivalent such as NC.
  • Knowledge of general purpose software such as word processing, databases and spreadsheets.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written. Good analytical and mathematical skills. Willing to learn new skills.
  • You will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Moray to meet the operational requirements of the Service.
  • Due to the rural nature of Moray this is normally undertaken by use of a car. Ability to relate to and support others in the team. Helpful to colleagues and customers.
  • Ability to carry out survey work/site supervision will form part of the job.

Apprenticeship Information

This post is offered as a Graduate Apprenticeship in Civil Engineering, delivered in partnership with the University of the Highlands and Islands (Inverness). The successful candidate will work towards a four-year Honours Degree qualification through block release study at the university while gaining valuable, hands-on experience within the Council’s Bridges and Structures team. This opportunity allows you to earn while you learn, applying your academic knowledge directly to real-life projects that make a difference across Moray.
