The role of Apprentice Simulator Technician is to provide support for the maintenance, and repair of flight simulators, gaining on-the-job training and technical skills through both work and college. Working under the supervision of experienced technicians to maintain a suite of training devices to regulatory and company standards, conducting routine tasks such as pre-flight checks and troubleshooting, ensuring that Devices are ready for training and training Centre Customers are provided with professional technical support.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: (Under Supervision)

  • Attend and complete academic courses both in college and distance learning in the workplace
  • Perform pre-flight tasks.
  • Perform preventative maintenance functions.
  • Perform Routine cleaning and sanitation tasks on the training equipment.
  • Conducts, as part of a team troubleshooting and corrective maintenance activities on training devices.
  • Performs training device updates (Software and Hardware).
  • Ensures documentation procedures are completed.
  • Provides total customer support service, that can include accompanying customers through instructor station training and during dry training operations.

 

COMPETENCIES & SKILLS:

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

  • Mathematics, English, Science; GCSE A-C or equivalent
  • Interest in aviation would be an advantage.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The role will be Monday to Friday. Part of your week will be spent at college and part of the week you work within the Hangar and office setting. The role will eventually require shift work once the college element is completed.

Your role will involve you working on static and motion-based Simulators to maintain, replace and repair components such as visual displays, control columns, Central pedestals etc. The role will require you to work in some tight spaces within the simulator and work at height maintaining the outside structure so a good head for heights and being able to work in tight environments is a must.

Specific vision abilities are required for this role including close vision, color vision differentiation for material creation and review, and the ability to adjust focus while reading small print, schematic drawings, and other graphics materials is also a consideration
